A former boathouse with living quarters on this site suffered a disastrous fire. The Village required that rebuilding enclose no more volume than had been in the original structure. A completely new house was built on a slightly smaller footprint, several feet farther from the road for a greater sense of privacy.

The main level has an open plan with views of the river from three sides. Upstairs are bedrooms and baths with river views, and the lower level, built into the hillside, is a large writing studio lined with books. There are three levels of decks to take advantage of the spectacular location.
