This “empty nest” house for a retired couple was designed to meet the different needs of a new phase of life. Conceived for “aging in place,” the house has a separate apartment for a future caretaker, should that become necessary. The house is organized in a centrifugal plan, with wings radiating from a central two-story rotunda. Located in a wooded setting, the house’s principal rooms have views of the Sudbury River. The grounds were designed by landscape architect Blair Hines to utilize low-maintenance native plants in a subtle and natural composition. Click to view photos: |
